MPs in Western Region deceived us after voting for them – Ghana Blind Union President reveals

Mr. James Osei, Western Regional President of the Ghana Blind Union

Mr. James Osei, the Western Regional President of the Ghana Blind Union has revealed that during the 2016 campaign season, some Members of Parliament (MPs) came to their office at Essikafo Ambantem Number 1 in Takoradi to promise them of regular support if they vote for them but since they won the elections, not a single MP has fulfilled those promises.

“They (MPs) always come to us during campaign season. In 2016 I remember Kobby Okyere Darko (MP for Takoradi Constituency) came to this office and told us that if we vote for him he will come to our support when he wins. After the elections we haven’t even heard from him again” Mr. Osei told Nana Kwesi Coomson on ‘Extensive Chat with NKC.’

He also mentioned that since he is the President of the Ghana Blind Union in the Western Region, other MPs from other constituencies come to his office to campaign for their votes. “I tell my members when the Aspirants come here and convey the message to them but after voting for them we don’t hear from them again” Mr. Osei added.

“We needed white canes (companion for the blind) for our members and I wrote to the MPs in the Western Region for support. I stated that each MP should give us 10 white canes making it 260 white canes from the 26 MPs in the Western Region. We took the letters to Parliament ourselves and sent it to the Secretariat of each MP but only one, Mireku Duker’s (MP for Tarkwa Nsuem Constituency) Secretary called me back to acknowledge receipt of the letter. Even after acknowledging it we didn’t hear from him again. When I call them they don’t even pick my calls again. These were the same people who were calling me and responding to my calls during campaign seasons. And one white cane costs GHc 45 so the 10 white canes will be GHc 450 per each MP” Mr. Osei lamented.

The embittered President of the Ghana Blind Union stated that they feel deceived after voting for the Aspirants who are now the MPs and the worst of it is not picking and returning their calls when they miss them.
