Justice Baidoo wins ‘2018 Global Health Reporting Contest’

Joy News’ Justice Baidoo has been adjudged winner of the Global Health Reporting Contest Award for 2018 at an event held on Monday in New York, USA.

This is the second time a Joy News Journalist is picking up the prestigious award in two years after Seth Kwame Boateng emerged a 2017 winner.

The awards ceremony, which took place at the Headquarters of the New York Times in the USA, received entries from more than 150 journalists around the world.

Justice’s documentary on obstetric fistula, a birth-related injury that leaves women unable to control their urine and feaces, and another in-depth report on child malnutrition in Ghana, earned him the top prize.

Global Health Reporting Contest builds on its early successes by further developing local networks of leading health reporters in Brazil, China, India, Russia and sub-Saharan Africa.

Journalists in these countries have the opportunity to participate in a 12-day study tour in the United States.

They also receive cash prizes as part of regional competitions to recognize high-quality coverage of maternal and child health, as well as other urgent health matters such as diseases and vaccinations. Six winners were selected for the program this year.

Johnson & Johnson sponsors the Global Health Reporting Contest.
