Teachers and Students of Obidan/Potwabin School in Central Region battle with snakes as they sit under trees for classes and as staff common room (PHOTOS)

Teachers of Obidan/Potwabin D/A Basic School located in Ekumfi Essakyir in the Central Region of Ghana use the shades of trees as their offices in the total absence of a staff common room whilst some of the and Students also sit under trees for classes.

This according to the Teachers at the facility has cowered them in fear as they mostly battle with snakes and harsh weather conditions. Teachers of Obidan/Potwabin D/A Basic School which is located about 200 metres after the Ahmadiyya University in Mankessim tell www.233times.net that “this has been a problem for years. Even that classroom block you see there we used about 3 years to build it. We use this place (under trees) as our staff common room.”

The Teacher who spoke to www.233times.net on the basis of anonymity said “when it rains we use one of the classrooms and let the students join the other class. It’s a problem. This has been the practice since the last three years that this classroom block was put up.”

The Teachers are not the only people who use the shades of the trees as their office, some of the classes at the school are also held under trees, compelling the students to close abruptly when there is an unfavourable weather condition.

Teachers of Obidan/Potwabin D/A Basic, a government school also tell www.233times.net that “we mostly see snakes around. Sometimes they fall from the tree and other times too you hear the students shouting and leaving their desks as they see the snakes. This has been a battle for us here.”

The Teachers of the Obidan/Potwabin D/A Basic School are appealing to government to come to their aid to finish the uncompleted blocks at the school.
