General Secretary of Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Rev. Emmanuel T. Barrigah says men of God must take steps to have personal security guards for their protection.
His comments come on the back of the killing of the Head Pastor of the Assemblies of God Church at Tema Community 4.
The late Pastor, David Nabedmago was stabbed to death by his nephew at the church premises on Sunday, December 30, 2018.
Rev. Emmanuel T. Barrigah said even though the demand or need for a security guard should be optional and a matter of choice, it will be prudent for pastors to have them.
Speaking in an interview on Onua FM’s Yen Sempa, December 31, 2018, the man of God explained that, “God protects us all, but we must live by wisdom”.
“I don’t think there is anything wrong if pastors are given protection, but the basic thing is God protects us all so it is also a matter of choice”, he explained.
The GPCC General Secretary said “I know whatever happens if I die, I will go to heaven so God is my chief body guard.”
When asked whether he thinks the state should provide such protections to pastors in the country, Rev. Barrigah said “the state does not have the resource to provide. It is not viable because this is one in a lot so we should not rush in taking any decision.”
