NDC hierarchy working against my bid – Sylvester Mensah

A flagbearer aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sylvester Mensah is alleging the party’s top hierarchy has been working against his bid to lead the party into the 2020 general elections.

According to him, the executives of the party have been giving former President John Mahama, upper hand in the presidential primary that has been set for January 26.

“It is an open secret that the party’s hierarchy is working against some members of the party including me,”’ he claimed on TV3 Wednesday, adding they are rather “in support of another candidate”.

Justifying his claim, he said Mahama was given the opportunity at the party’s congress last year to speak both at the opening and closing sessions at which platform he said the former president indirectly launch his campaign song.

Again, he alleged some top people within the party organised delegates at a central point in the various regions to endorse the nomination form of Mahama while other aspirants were left to their fate to crisscross every constituency to get signatures

“When it came to the filling of nominations, while other aspirants were going round the constituencies looking for delegates to sign [our nomination form] we had a situation where a fiat [was issued]; in most of the regions an establishment had invited delegates at a central point to just file for an individual, the former President John Dramani Mahama,” he claimed.

Such acts, he described as “quite uneven and very unfair”.

Meanwhile, on the back of rumours of alleged electoral malpractices in the December 2018 referendum on the creation of six regions, Mr. Mensah advised the Electoral Commission to be careful and employ measures that would prevent multiple voting among others in the 2020 general election.
