On Saturday 12th January, 2019, online news portal www.233times.net in collaboration with Organizers of Western Music Awards, Westline Entertainment and Corpnation organized a New Year party for members of the Ghana Blind Union in Sekondi-Takoradi dubbed ‘Jawuley with the visually impaired, New Year Party with Members of Ghana Blind Union.’

The 5 hour party for the 60 Members of the Sekondi-Takoradi and Effia-Kwesimintsim branch of the Ghana Blind Union was held at the Star of the Sea Catheral’s Parish Hall in Takoradi.

With food and drinks, pedicure and manicure and styling of the hairs of the females, the President of the Ghana Blind Union Mr. James Osei expressed his appreciation for the kind gesture. In his remarks, Mr. Osei said “We are grateful to all of you for remembering us too on this day. We ask for God’s blessings for you and we really had fun. You could tell from how we were dancing how happy we were. We are very grateful and God bless you.”

Speaking to the visually impaired at the party, the CEO of www.233times.net Nana Kwesi Coomson used deaf-blind American Author Hellen Keller and Western Region Women’s President of the Union, Doreen’s exploits to admonish them to be industrious and contribute something to the world.

“One of my favourite Authors, Helen Adams Keller (June 27, 1880 – June 1, 1968) was deaf-blind. Regardless of her situation, she was the first deaf-blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in the world. She became an American Author, Political activist and Lecturer. So I wonder if you still think there is little you can do. I know the Women’s Wing President of Western Region’s Ghana Blind Union, Miss Doreen is into baking and operates a confectionery shop. This is what we ask of you and know you can do” Mr. Coomson told them.

“As a Christian I strongly believe in the power of words as the world was created by the words of God. What we say has impact on what will manifest in our lives. From now onwards, our words should be, “I am great, the world is in need of my talent, I am an amazing creature, I have something great to offer. If you not sure of anything you could do, write a book on your daily routines” Mr. Coomson added.

Emmanuel Ampaabeng, CEO of Westline Entertainment also promised to make sure that this becomes an annual party for the Ghana Blind Union.

Each of the members also received white cane donated by Hon. Philip Kwesi Nkrumah, former MCE of Sekondi-Takoradi, Dr. Prince Armah and Miss Verlinda Attipoe.

In his appreciation, Mr. Coomson said “Thanks to people like Philip Osei Bonsu and the OBPR Team, Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah (Takoradi MP and Deputy Aviation Minister), Sally Brobbey and Salby Foodsta, MCE of Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Ishmael Akumanyi,  Hon. K. K. Sam, Daniel Dadzie (Host of Joy FM Super Morning Show), Frederick Abu, Eva Shieta, Corp Sayvee – Corpnation, Shola, Marcux Mark Abbey, Wenette Hope Foundation, Angela Chewetey, Dennis Tandoh aka Kobby Major, Aseda Foundation for the doing the hair of the females and pedicure for all of them. Our great Cooks Akosua Tilly, Gloria Yeboah and Hetty with support from Priscilla, we cannot thank you enough. God bless you abundantly. On behalf of the Ghana Blind Union Members, www.233times.net and Westline Entertainment say we are eternally grateful. May God replenish what you gave us in billion folds.”
