Today 1st February, 2019, Westline Entertainment, organizers of the prestigious Rigworld Training Centre Western Music Awards launched the 3rd edition of the awards at the Raybow International Hotel in Takoradi.

The launch and presser was to give details and new developments of this year’s edition to the media. The Public and Media Relations Officer of the awards, Nana Kwesi Coomson who gave the details to the media’s speech below (unedited);

Good morning fellow colleagues from the media, Artistes, Music Producers, DJs and stakeholders of Creative Arts Industry. As we have not met most of you since the beginning of this year, let me take this opportunity to wish you Happy New Year on behalf of Westline Entertainment. Your presence here mean a lot to us and we appreciate you profoundly.

As the Public and Media Relations Officer for Westline Entertainment and Western Music Awards, I’m always touched by one impression, “We have your solid support which is always expressed in critiques, suggestions and commendations.”

We are constantly reminded as a team that the Western Region is expecting us to raise the bar every year. From your feedbacks, we did a good work for the maiden edition and a better one for the second edition. Being the third, we promise you the best, the superlative of the maiden edition thus one of the main reasons for our tagline for this year “The Best Comes From The West.” This tagline is also what the region boasts of so it was only fair that we adhere to our brag tag as a region.

As your invitation here is mainly for the details of this year’s Western Music Awards which is proudly sponsored by Rigworld Training Centre, a subsidiary of the Rigworld Group of Companies, so let me go straight to the details.

CATEGORIES

After every year’s edition, we get feedback from stakeholders and general public. One thing that makes us happy as a team is that this awards scheme is seen more of a Western Region endeavour than Westline Entertainment’s. In view of this, our solid feedback bank and wide consultations have influenced us to add three new categories to this year’s edition. This year’s edition will focus on 26 categories which are grouped into two. The general and industry categories.

The general categories include: Artiste(s) of the Year, Hiplife Artiste(s) of the Year, Hip Hop Artiste(s) of the Year, Highlife Artiste(s) of the Year, Reggae/Dancehall Artiste(s) of the Year, Gospel Artiste(s) of the Year, New Artiste of the Year, Best Collaboration of the year, Hiplife Song of the Year, Highlife song of the Year, Hip Hop Song of the Year, Gospel Song of the year, Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year, Best Group of the Year, Best Rapper of the Year, Most popular Ghanaian Song of the Year, Most Popular Regional Song of the Year, Urban Gospel Song of the Year and Afropop song of the year.

Technical/Industry Categories include: Best Female Artiste of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Music Producer of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award, Best Radio DJ of the Year and Best Entertainment Show of the Year and Brassband of the year.

Definition of the various categories would be made available on our social media platforms subsequently. To the Artistes and potential nominees, we entreat you to download the Western Music Awards application as most of the information about this year’s edition would be communicated on the app.

PUBLICITY (SOCIAL AND TRADITIONAL MEDIA COVERAGE)

The PR team led by myself will put together a team of active social media users. These users should have very active social media pages and are passionate about this year’s awards. This is a warm invitation to anyone who would want to join the Social Media PR team. We are ensuring that all the PR kits will be uniform so all the releases, posts and social media updates will come from the PRO.

To get all the media in the region involved in this year’s edition, we have visited every radio station in the Metropolis also traveled to Tarkwa and Agona Nkwanta to speak to the programmes and general managers of these various radio stations. To other parts of the region that we couldn’t go in person, we have spoken to them on phone. The main reason is to get every media station involved and as well seek ideas from the heads of these radio stations on how to make this year’s edition the best.

We are available for media interviews on this year’s awards at any time of the day.  Let me quickly remind you that the tagline for this year’s edition is “The Best Comes From The West.’

SPONSORSHIP

We are grateful to Rigworld Training Centre for coming on board again this year as the headline sponsor. We has ‘swollen head’ when we had the impressive feedback from them after last year’s edition. This galvanises us to do more this year.

This year we are supported by these companies as minor sponsors; Justmax Travels, Kent Investment Limited, Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, K4 Nsaano, Abeynica De Italia Limited, Best Western Plus Atlantic Hotel, Food Chopsters, Raybow International Hotel, Ebiamo Nyamele Aye Awie, amongst others.
