3 Nigerians arrested for murder at Weija

Three Nigerians have been arrested by the Weija Divisional Police Command in connection with the murder of a two-year-old boy at Kalabule – a suburb of Weija in the Ga South Municipality.

The three have been identified as Kelly Aluna, 32; Ebona Fabian, 21 and Perry Tomode Genesis, 28.

The victim – Nathaniel Owusu – went missing on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, but his body was later discovered on Saturday, April 27 wrapped in a bed sheet hidden between some packed cement blocks at the back of a house close to the apartment of his parents.

Briefing DAILY GUIDE, Weija Divisional Police Commander and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Laar Baman said the police received a formal complaint of the missing child around 8:30pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, from the parents of the victim at the Weija toll booth police station.

Based on police investigations, the three Nigerian nationals who lived about 200 metres away from the house of the victim and his parents were arrested to assist police in their investigations.

As part of police investigations, a search was conducted on the premises of the three suspects but nothing was found.

He noted that while investigations were still ongoing, police again received another information in the morning of April 27 that the body of the victim had been found wrapped in a piece of cloth and dumped between some packed cement blocks behind a house belonging to one Patience Aryee – a neighbour.

“Some personnel together with that of the Weija Police went to the scene and after conducting preliminary investigations, the body was removed and taken to the Police Hospital for preservation and autopsy,” he narrated.

The divisional commander revealed that some persons including neighbours had been invited by the police to give out their statements but the three arrested Nigerians would be kept at the station until investigations are over.

“It is being speculated that parts of the body of the victim had been removed but until the autopsy has been conducted, we cannot confirm that part of the body has been removed,” ACP Laar Baman averred.

Narrating to journalists how the body was found, Patience Aryee , whose house is close to the location where the body was found, said after her children had alerted her of a foul smell wafting from a pile of blocks, she went there together with her son to observe what was happening.

“Initially, we thought it was a dead rat so I went behind my building with my son and found a decomposing body lying in a pile of cement blocks. After removing some blocks, we found it was Nathaniel,” she recounted, adding that they then screamed and summoned the parents and some neighbours to come to their aid.

Meanwhile, father of the deceased Kwame Owusu has vowed to assist the police find the killers of his son.
