Sekondi: ICGC Pastor’s 4yr old son drowns in manhole

A four-year old boy has drowned in a manhole at Fijai Hills in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis of the Western Region.

Perez Quarm, a kindergarten pupil, was said to be playing with his colleagues in the area when he accidentally slipped into the newly constructed manhole left uncovered by the owner.

His father, Anthony Quarm who was called by neighbours, rushed to the scene, dived into the manhole to pull out the boy but was pronounced dead few minutes later by doctors at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital.

The incident happened Saturday at about 6:00pm.

Traumatised Mr Quarm, a pastor of the International Central Gospel Church at Apowa confirmed the incident to Connect FM.

He said he was with his son the whole day at home but decided to check up on his car from a mechanical shop.

“It was less than an hour that I had left home when I had a call that my son had fallen into a manhole. I quickly rushed to the scene and dived into the manhole which had collected rain water” he recounted.

The father said he wasn’t successful in rescuing his son when he first dived into the water. When he dived again, he said, his leg hit touched the boy and eventually managed to bring him out of the water.

They immediately rushed him to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital but was pronounced dead few minutes upon arrival.
