GES directs basic school headteachers to write exam questions on chalkboard

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has  warned headteachers of basic schools across the country against charging examination fees and that they are  free to the questions on chalkboards. 

The directive was issued by the office the Deputy Director-General of GES to the various directorate of education across the country.

Per the directive, which are to be strictly complied with:

1. No penny should be collected from any Pupil or Parent as fees for the various set of Examination”
2. Headteachers are at liberty to write Examinations Questions on the Chalkboard”
3. Headteachers who have contracted Examination Consortiums should as a matter of urgency abrogate those contracts
4. Monies collected from pupils and parents towards the writing of this term’s exam should be returned to them with immediate effect. The examination Units of GES across the country are to ensure that the monies reach parents and report to the district directors of education.
5. The examination unit of the various districts should monitor the end of year examination and report outcomes to their respective Directors of Education”

A letter by the West Mamprusi Municipal Exams officer, Mohammed Rabiu Jabaah, communicating the directive to schools within the municipality warned  any headteacher who fails to do adhere to the directive will “face the full rigours of the law”.
