Central Region: Highway robbers attack passengers at Potsin Junction

Police at Potsin in the Central Region say one person was injured in Thursday’s highway robbery attack on the  Winneba-Cape Coast road.

Many others, however, escaped unhurt after the robbers attacked commuters on at Potsin Junction.

In the attack, the passengers were robbed of their valuables after the armed men blocked sections of the road to rob more than six vehicles.

Speaking to Citi News, DSP Paul Ankan of the Dominase Police indicated that although no arrest has been made, there are plans to mount a police checkpoint on that stretch to curb highway robbery.

He added that night patrols will be increased on that stretch to curb the occurrence of such incidents.

“There wasn’t any serious casualty. But I understand that one man was injured because a stick was used on him when he refused to get down from his vehicle. So he was rushed to the hospital. But, nobody was shot and killed.  We have combed the area this morning and nobody was found dead. We are seriously patrolling that stretch so we do something there to end this menace. Nobody has been arrested but investigations are still ongoing.”

“Anyway that stretch is not conducive for snap check but still we have to do something physical there to stop this menace,” DSP Paul Ankan said.

The Potsin robbery incident

Some armed men in a 207 bus vehicle at about 6 pm on Thursday, blocked sections of the Potsin stretch on the Cape Coast-Winneba highway and robbed commuters of their valuables.

Several vehicles were stopped on that stretch creating vehicular congestion.

One person sustained head injury after refusing to comply with the directive of the robbers.

No one sustained gunshot wounds according to the Dominase Police command.
