The Executive Secretary of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), Dr. Prince Hamid Armah has today, Thursday 6th February 2020, picked nomination forms to contest the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primaries in the Kwesimintsim Constituency of the Western Region.
Accompanied by some polling station and constituency executives of the party, Dr Prince Armah presented a banker’s draft of GHC 2,000, which the polling station executives had contributed to enable him purchase the forms. He also donated an additional cash amount of GHC 2,000 to the constituency’s Elections Committee.
Addressing a mammoth crowd after picking the nomination forms, Dr Prince Armah, who has been a member of the New Patriotic Party for the past two decades, indicated that the constituency needs dedicated and exposed leaders who are capable to lead the Kwesimintsim constituency to achieve the needed development.
“This leadership must respond to the needs and voices of the grassroots. They must be willing and able to communicate with the party, the constituency and the nation with equal levels of comfort. He/She must be a persuasive advocate for the constituency and the party, both in parliament and outside it. They must be connected to a social and professional network that can be harnessed for the good of the constituency,” he said.
According to him, blame games do not solve the challenges of people in the constituency, rather, commitment to building party unity, and a stronger united front to ensure everyone contributes to the effort in finding solutions to problems in the constituency, is what leaders must focus on. He added that any leader who leads the Kwesimintsim Constituency must be open to criticisms and wise counsel from others.
“The leader must not be focused on blame games but on solutions; not on settling scores, but on uniting the party. He/she must be willing to rely on the wise counsel of others, because no one person knows everything. In sum, the leader we have must embody the very best of Kwesimintsim; exemplify its excellence and personify its aspirations; a leader we can trust.
“I am here to submit, in all humility, that I am ready, willing and able to be that leader. And that is why today, I have picked up the forms to contest the primaries of the New Patriotic Party with the ultimate intention of becoming the next Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim, come January 2021,” Dr Prince Hamid Armah indicated.
He further indicated that, his decision to run for the seat is to provide a plan for economic growth of the Constituency that will help provide jobs for the people, something that has been missing in the Constituency for the past four (4) years. Dr. Armah stated that he is the one with the right connection and leadership acumen to lead the Constituency in its pursuit of development.
“I am running because Kwesimintsim constituency needs the most compelling advocate it can get to make its case on both the national and international stages. In the frankly competitive pursuit of development, silence or a badly made case can mean that resources go to constituencies that make a more convincing pitch for them. This constituency cannot afford to be silent while others get what we deserve. We must make use of the networks that our sons and daughters have built to procure funds, skills and infrastructure that will boost the quality of life in the community and bring opportunity and success to our hardworking young men and women. I am running because I believe my voice and network can be put to no better use than to make the case for our community,” he stated.
The NaCCA Boss said he is motivated by the incredible works done by the Akufo-Addo government to work hard as the people’s representative to help maintain the government in power for another term.
“I am running because we need to keep the government of Nana Akufo Addo and the New Patriotic Party in office for another term and beyond so that this constituency, and this country can develop. Since coming into office, the NPP government has made several interventions that have seen our economy get back on track; access to health and education has been expanded, and jobs created. This momentum must not be stalled. We must retain this government. And Kwesimintsim must play its part. A demoralized constituency party and an unpopular candidate can lose us critical votes that may affect the party in a closely fought election. I am running because we have to keep Nana Addo and the NPP in government and we can’t afford mistakes,” he remarked.
Dr Armah emphasized the need for unity in the party and said it was his intention to heal the long-running divisions in the constituency party in order to win a resounding victory in the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections in the constituency.
Dr Armah has been a member of the party over two decades, and has previously served as secondary schools coordinator in the Western Region, constituency youth secretary, TESCON secretary and member of the regional communications team. He has also held elected office before as an assemblyman.
The Kwesimintsim primary of the ruling party is set to be a two-way challenge between Dr Prince Armah and the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mr Joseph Mensah.
