Prez. Akufo-Addo files presidential nomination forms today with ¢200k fees

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will on Thursday, February 20 file his nomination forms at the New Patriotic Party head office in Accra to contest in the party’s presidential primary scheduled for April 25.

He is expected to submit the nomination forms with a mandatory 200,000-cedi filing fees.

A statement issued by the party Wednesday described tomorrow’s event an important one which marks an “important milestone in the NPP’s journey to a deserving electoral victory in December, 2020”.

It is unclear whether the president, who is also scheduled to present his last State of the Nation Address for his first term to parliament tomorrow morning, will submit the presidential nomination form himself or delegate someone to file on his behalf.

A team from the Presidency led by Director of Research at the Jubilee House, Victor Newman, on Monday, January 27 picked nomination forms from the party’s national headquarters in Accra on behalf of Nana Akufo-Addo, who was at the time in the Ashanti Region to mourn with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who had lost one of his chiefs.

Nana Akufo-Addo whose first four-year mandate ends on January 7, 2021, is seeking the endorsement of the delegates of the NPP to lead the party into the December 2020 general elections as its presidential candidate.

He is the only candidate who has so far picked the party’s presidential nomination forms for the flagbearership slot since nominations opened exactly a month ago.

In line with the party’s constitution and the rules and regulations, the President, being the sole contestant thus far, is expected to be acclaimed as the party’s 2020 flagbearer at a National Congress to be held simultaneously across the country on April 25.
