Yesterday, Sunday 29th March, 2020, hundreds of passengers were taken through a mandatory COVID 19 screening exercise before entering the oil capital of Ghana, Takoradi.
This exercise was being taken by the Western Region Emergency Response team. Passengers were instructed to step out of every vehicle for a temperature check with an Infrared Thermometer gun. Persons whose temperatures are above normal levels (37.5°C) were isolated and sent to a holding facility for a thorough examination and initiation of testing for the virus.
www.233times.net is reliably informed that there were some suspected COVID 19 cases. The suspected ‘carriers’ were sent to the holding facility. Samples of the suspected persons have been taken for further examination.
Thousands of Ghanaians fled the locked down cities – Accra and Kumasi to Takoradi and other non-locked towns and villages ahead of the lock down day (30th March, 2020). As a result of making sure that the Sekondi-Takoradi keeps a clean sheet of no record of the coronavirus, MMDCEs in Western Region had a an emergency meeting with the Regional Minister to explore effective strategies to curtail an invasion of the virus in the Region.
The mandatory screening before anyone enters Sekondi-Takoradi therefore became the results of the MMDCEs meeting with the Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah which was effected yesterday Sunday 29th March, 2020.
www.233times.net is reliably informed that other entry points in Western Region will in the ensuing days be duplicating this mandatory testing and screening exercise.
