COVID 19: Suspected cases in Western Region shoot up to 43

The number of suspected COVID 19 cases in the Western Region continues to rise. Despite these rising statistics, the region has recorded nor confirmed a positive case to the coronavirus.

As at 5, April, 2020, a total of 43 suspected cases have been reported by the Regional Surveillance Taskforce.

Since the outbreak, a total of 47 samples have been taken for laboratory test, 31 of which came out negative with the remainder (16) pending.

The data, sourced from the Western Region Health Directorate, indicates that samples from four (4) travelers who had completed the fourteen (14) days self/mandatory quarantine, have been taken for testing.

“Rumours of two (2) foreigners suspected to have contracted the disease, were investigated yesterday. One with the help of the Regional Taskforce. However, all of them have been in the country for more than 3 weeks” a report from the Health Directorate stated.

Two new cases (suspected) from the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality and Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis have been recorded. Samples of these suspected cases have been taken and awaiting transportation to Nuguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.

It must be noted that, No POSITIVE case have been recorded yet, in the Western Region.

The Regional Health Directorate has assured of an enhanced surveillance in all health facilities across the region, so an incident could be identified and managed swiftly and effectively.
