Kpone Katamanso: MCE bans funerals completely as Covid-19 cases soar

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kpone Katamanso in the Greater Accra Region, Solomon Tetteh Appiah, has declared to ruthlessly deal with families that organize funerals in defiance to the ban on social and public gatherings.

Mr Tetteh Appiah is livid about how bereaved families organize private burials for late relatives, totally defying the restrictive measures not to have more than 25 persons in attendance.

The Kpone Katamanso MCE has said after exhausting all persuasive means, his assembly would use force to ensure people comply with government’s directives.

Solomon Tetteh Appiah disclosed this on Tuesday, May 19, stressing that there will be no funeral in Kpone Katamanso and offenders will be arrested and be made to face the full rigours of the law.

He noted that the Assembly’s task force together with the security agencies will be randomly patrolling the metropolis and apprehending families who reluctantly flout President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s order.

“When persuasion fails force is applied. I will apply force and latest by Friday I am meeting all the clans of Kpone village. There will be no more funeral and I am sounding this caution before meeting them.

“Whoever flouts this directive will be made to face full rigours of the law in ensuring people comply with all the protocols put across by Ghana Health Service and there would be no excuses,” he added.

Solomon Tetteh also revealed that the Assembly has adopted new strategies in enhancing the fight against the novel coronavirus disease in the metropolis.

He said all the 79 cases were imported through inter-trading at markets in the Assembly but was optimistic the new strategies would go a long way to curb community spread.

He thus appealed to the general public especially traders to be vigilant and comply with all protocols in protecting themselves, families and other people from contracting the disease.
