VIDEO: 241 illegal Ghanaian immigrants, 43 Togolese return from Kuwait

The 241 illegal Ghanaian immigrants deported from Kuwait have arrived in Ghana.

Also, some 43 illegal Togolese immigrants have transited to Ghana from Kuwait.

Deportees of the two West African states returned on the same chartered flight on Saturday, May 23, 2020.

They touched down at the Kotoka International Airport at about 2:30pm.

Upon arrival, the 241 Ghanaians were whisked away to isolation centres to be tested for coronavirus.

As stated by Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, on Friday, May 22, 2020, the Ghanaians are to undergo a mandatory 14 days quarantine.

While under quarantine, they are to be tested twice for coronavirus.

The deportees were received on arrival by Government officials, national security personnel including Ghana Immigration Service, Military, and Police.

Security was tight at the airport.

Col Gaisie, National Security Airport Liaison Officer, told journalists that the remaining 43 deportees will he sent to Togo.

Journalists were barred from taking close shots of the deportees or interviewing them in strict compliance with Covid19 protocols.

The Ghanaian deportees backs were turned to the media upon arrival.

They were welcomed home by Ministers of State including Deputy National Security Minister, Henry Quartey.

They were briefed by Ghana Immigration Service and Ghana Health Service personnel, and given lunch before being transported to isolation centers.

Minister of Aviation, Joseph Kofi Adda, welcomed them home on behalf of President Nana Akufo-Addo and the people of Ghana.

He advised them to adhere to advice from health officials on managing the virus.Video Player00:0000:14
