Kojo Oppong Nkrumah ‘exposes’ NDC over distorted ‘2016 NPP Manifesto’

Minister for Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has rebuffed claims by the opposition political party; the National Democratic Congress (NDC), that the current government’s performance since 2017 has been abysmal. The NDC this afternoon in their weekly press briefing scored the performance of the Nana Addo led government, as 14 percent.

Responding to these claims, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah described as a deliberate, consistent and dishonest attempt by the party in distorting data on government’s performance so they could satisfy their parochial interest.

The Minister in his briefing proved the technique the NDC employed in arising at their ratings for the government. He explained the opposition party mischievously ‘lifted words and phrases’ in their 2016 manifesto to arrive at an extra 235 promises to the original 388 that has been documented and assessed by the Vice President some months ago.

“They go and lift the vision and strategic framework and they copy words and phrases out of the vision as articulated and create them as different promises.

“This attempt to distort the base and claim that we have made a representation that is dishonest, this attempt itself is the true definition of intellectual dishonesty. Because in our manifesto we’ve stated what the vision and strategy is before we come to the specific promises. How was it that you now pick words and phrases out of the vision and strategy to claim that they are promises?” he questioned.

Hon. Oppong-Nkrumah continued that it is statistically incorrect to extrapolate their [NDC] ‘altered’ data to prevailing conditions.

“…as far back as February, His Excellency the Vice President articulated them. The details are out there on the website and they have not been challenged until four months down the line, we have this exercise of adding words from our vision and strategic framework to increase the number of promises just so that the base will become bigger and then when you score the number of promises that we have completed or in the process of completing over it you get a low percentage” he added.

He maintained that the NDC ever since the NPP took office under the leadership of H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, has marshaled allegations to discredit and thwart progress made at improving the Ghanaian economy and lives.
