Russia to approve COVID-19 vaccine August 10

Russia is expected to approve the world’s first coronavirus vaccine come August 10, 2020.

But, according to reports monitored on CNN, there are safety concerns being raised over the vaccine.

News about the planned approval of the vaccine comes as global confirmed cases of coronavirus hit 16,747,268.

Deaths linked to coronavirus globally have also risen to 660,593.

At least 4,352,084 cases and 149,258 deaths have been recorded in the United States alone, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

And within than two weeks from now, Russia may approve the desperately needed coronavirus vaccine.

Reports say the vaccine was created by Moscow-based Gamaleya Institute.

Accordingly, the vaccine will be approved for public use and that frontline healthcare workers are to get it first.

Head of Russia’s Sovereign Wealth Fund, Kirill Dmitriev, was quoted by CNN as saying “it’s a Sputnik moment,” while referring to the successful launch of the world’s first satellite by the Soviet Union in 1957.

According to him, “Americans were surprised when they heard Sputnik beeping. It’s the same with this vaccine. Russia will have got there first.”

The Sovereign Wealth Fund is reportedly financing Russia’s vaccine research.

Accordingly, Russia’s vaccine is yet to complete its second phase.

Reporters say developers of the vaccine are hoping to complete its second phase by August 3, this year.

However, a number of global vaccines are already in the third phase of trials.
