President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured Ghanaians that the December 7, 2020, general elections will not degenerate into bloodshed and chaos under his watch as President of the Republic of Ghana.
According to him, there should be a collective effort by every Ghanaian to make the upcoming election peaceful devoid of chaos and mayhem.
Speaking in an interview with Skyy Power 93.5FM in the Western Region, President Akufo-Addo said that every Ghanaian with the New Voter ID should be given the opportunity to take part in the 2020 general election to make their choice for the next leader of the country.
On his working tour in the Western Region, President Nana Addo said that his ultimate desire and a matter of concern is to ensure a peaceful election where the good people of Ghana will have the free will to choose their own leader.
“We don’t want any chaos in Ghana. What is an election if not to share ideas; it is not something that should degenerate into bloodshed and mayhem. We don’t want that for our country . . . whoever wins or loses the election should accept that the people have decided their choice of leader. This is the most important thing for me in the 2020 general election,” he stated.
“It will be said that it was my time as President of Ghana that the country degenerated into confusion or chaos. I don’t want that,” he added.
To him, the measures that have been put in place by the Electoral Commission will ensure the peace needed in the upcoming elections even though some people at the beginning of the voter registration exercise prophesied doom.
He said the electoral process turned out peaceful and transparent except few issues which happened in some isolated places.
President Akufo-Addo however pleaded with Ghanaians to make it a matter of concern for all to ensure the December 7 polls end in peace.
“I am pleading that it should be a matter of concern for all of us as we go into the December 7 polls, the election will be peaceful,” he pleaded.
