Known on his birth certificate and passport as Martin KingArthur and in Showbiz as Kofi Kinaata, the fans of the multiple award winning Artiste have put out strong arguments why their icon is the one who towers in this year’s VGMA Artiste of the year category.
Not only does his songs win the hearts of all as the best Songwriter in contemporary times, great Songwriters of years past like K.K. Kabobo, Pastor Joe Beechem, Okyeame Kwame, Yaw Sarpong amongst others take solace in the young talent and are able to stay off the microphone.
Okyeame Kwame has openly said that “If we keep supporting his (Kofi Kinaata’s) career, he will inspire the next generation of song writers.” Highlife legend K.K. Kabobo has also mentioned that Kofi Kinaata is the Artiste with the most sensible song at the moment.
In the review year, Kofi Kinaata’s ‘Things fall Apart’ did not only shake the foundations of the secular world, Pastors serialized the song in their sermons; with most of them referring to it as a lifetime sermon.
‘Things fall Apart’ topped charts for weeks and became the sig (signature) tune for most Radio Presenters in and out of Ghana. The song entered the Ghana National Gospel Music Awards scheme and won the ‘Hybrid Song of the year’ category, the first to win the newly created category.
In December 2019, just two months after ‘Things fall Apart’ single was released, Kofi Kinaata was billed to perform on events in Ghana from 19th December 2019 to 2nd January, 2020 with 21st December, 2019 as the only day he was off the bill of other event organizers to focus on his headlined ‘Made in Taadi Concert.’
”Made In Taadi Concert’ headlined and sponsored by Kofi Kinaata in 2019 convened creme de la creme of Ghanaian Artistes like Shatta Wale, Dopenation, Sister Afia, Adina, Kwaw Kese, Obrafour, Joey B, amongst others. The concert had attendance of over 60,000 people.
Comparatively, in 2019, Kofi Kinaata performed at more events in and out of Ghana than all the Artistes in the Artiste of the year category. In December 2019, he performed at over 45 events with an average of an event a day. In one of the days in December, he even performed at four (4) events.
In 2019, Kofi Kinaata won Muse Africa’s ‘Highlife Artiste of the Quarter,’ Ghana National Gospel Music Awards scheme and won the ‘Hybrid Song of the year,’ Ghana Actors and Entertainers Awards’ ‘Hiplife Artiste of the year,’ Youtube Creators Awards’ Silver plaque, Avance Media’s ‘MostInfluential young Ghanaian’ in the 2019 amongst others.
If the description of the Artiste of the year by Charter House is anything to go by, then it is without doubt that Kofi Kinaata is the 2020 Artiste of the year.
