All to know about the international reggae sensation – BINGHI


Patrice Cyril Lingam popularly known as BINGHI was born at the Ladies Hospital De Soysa in Colombo (sri-Lanka). 

He was separated from his mother few months after his birth through an adoption process and brought to Europe where he grew with an adopted family.

He enrolled in a music school at the age of 3 to learn Accordion and music theory.

At age 11, he joined a few choir and started playing an instrument (piano) with the study of classic music with Marc Henry Aubert, a great musician.

He had a lot of experiences with other talented kids in music camps and in this environment was where he met the likes of Martin Tillman who wrote and played for different famous movies like Pirates of the Caribean ;Da Vinci Code; Harry Potter, amongst others. 

At the age of 14, he enrolled at the Royal Abbey of St-Maurice which is one of the oldest Christian monastery and still active.

The love of RASTAFARI and this Heart of Liberation came hit him naturally at an early age and it was at that stage in his life that he had interest in reggae music. 

He specially love Artiste like Sizzla or Capleton who influenced him a lot in his royal character and as a true person of value.

He had his first experience as a reggae musician at the age of 15 where he was a keyboardist with a non professional juvenile band. They recorded a preview album in a Studio in Lausanne Switzerland and had the opportunity to perform at shows too.

The lack of stimulation and professionalism of that experience motivated him to create his own label ‘Jah Love Production.’

That was when he had his first real experience as a composer and audio engineer.

He also wrote his first songs on the version he was composing and started his recording Artiste journey at the age of 16.

He collaborated with Cris Goldmind in Jamaica and for Goldmind Production who produced some singles for him too.

It was around that time he met the great artist of Martinique Matinda Di Lion who was the one who gave him his stage name “Binghi”.

Professionnal studies:

At the age of 19, Binghi enrolled at the High School of Rhythmic of the Conservatory of Bern (Switzerland) and study one year in Biel. 

His continual need of stimulation and his professional ambition motivated him to  study Electric Audio Engineering.

One year later, he did his intensive at the CFMS in Lausanne as a sound assistant and the he continued at the SAE School in Geneva where he really practiced electroacoustic engineering from 2012 to 2016.

In 2017 He went back to the CFMS where he sat for a federal examination leaded by the AES in 2019 (Audio Enginnering Society Head Quarters in N.Y)

In 2018, he started working as a studio assistant for Philippe Mercier at the Studio Prism which sold 6 millions CD with over 380 albums with artist like David Bowie , 14 Golden disc and one golden video .He will be the last studio assistant of this great engineer and there he recorded great artist like Linling Yu and the French Voice of Morgan Freeman.He is in charge of the studio and is the main engineer until July 2019

In 2019 after the federal examination Binghi started working as Live engineer  for the cultural center Décalquai where he is now the technical director.

Music ,links and friendship; Professionnal Artist Journey:

Binghi met Ishmel McAnuff the son of Winston McAnuff in 2012 (Inna di Yard Jamaica). He was in europe on tour just after he lost his brother Matthew. A very deep frendship started and Binghi’s regular visit to Ishmel in Paris also kept the link as they use to spend time at the studio with his heartycal friend Matinda di Lion.

He also met the Ghanaian Artist Kojo Kombolo for who he produced 2 mixtape with Jah Love Production.

There again a great friendship started with myself and Kojo Kombolo.

He visited Ghana for the first time to shoot the video for his song “red”, his first official release, produced by Augusta Massive in Italy in 2015. Same year it is also in ghana he recorded the song Pray song who was released by Goldmind Production in Jamaica of course.

He had the opportunity to tour with the great living legend sizzla Kalonji on the “life of a ghetto tour” when he travelled to visit Ras Ceylon in Carlifonia. He left California to Jamaica visit Chris goldmine and there he met Jesus Edwards, the son of the most RT Hon Charles Edwards king Emmanuel the seventh who invited him to bobo hill, the head quarters of E.A.B.I.C.

As he came back in Europe to finish his audio Engineering studies and after was contacted by the Jamaican Grammy Musician Andrew Dennis who is plays with bands like Raging Fyah and Artist like Jessie Royal.

In 2019 Andrew Dennis visted France to meet Binghi and through this great musical connection between the two artist the idea of a first solo album came up . Andrew Dennis went back in Jamaica few month after and in 2020, Binghi started to talk about a production Agreement with the Label Ragga Royal Production (JA) owned by Andrew Dennis as well.

This first solo album “Heart of Love” will come out in the middle of next year 2021 and will be released in Jamaica and worldwide of course.
