Sudan beat Ghana 1-0 in AFCON 2021 qualifier

Sudan have revenged the 2-0 defeat they suffered in the hands of Ghana at Cape Coast by handing the Black Stars their first defeat in the AFCON 2021 qualifier Tuesday afternoon at Omdurman.

CK Akonnor made five changes to the squad that defeated Sudan in the first leg. Fatau Dauda started in goal due to the suspension of Richard Ofori.

Ghana struggled in the opening half of the game and failed to create clear goalscoring opportunities.

Sudan pressed hard but could not break the resilient Ghanaian defensive line, which had John Boye and Alexander Djiku at the center.

The home side continued the second half from where they left off in the first half. They continued pressing in search of a goal and Ghana had no option than to defend.

Ghana came close to scoring the first goal of the game in the 51st minute through Jordan Ayew. He tried a shot from outside the 18-yard box but was saved by the Sudanese goalkeeper.

The efforts of the host paid off eventually. They scored through Mohammed Abdul Rahman’s header just before the end of the game. He connected a header from the left hand side of the Sudanese attack and Fatau Dauda was beaten easily.

The Black Stars are still top of Group C but are level on points with South Africa – 9 points.
