Police allegedly whips assemblyman mercilessly in Tarkwa

The assemblyman for Efanta Tamso in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality in the Western Region, Ibrahim Diallo claims he was allegedly beaten by policemen in Tarkwa on Saturday, April 10, 2021 after a verbal confrontation with them.

Ibrahim Diallo in an interview with Skyy Power FM’s Samuel Kakyire Oboubi made it known he was mercilessly beaten by police officers in Tarkwa after a confrontation with the officers concerning an illegal road protest by some youths in the Efanta Tamso community.

He said, ” The youths were having a road protest against one of the bad roads in the community which emits too much dust. I went there to check on the issue since I am in the rightful authority. Three police men came around and instead of them to be calm so we solve the issue, they got in a verbal confrontation with me and one of them called for back up. The back up officers came and they immediately started beating me mercilessly”.

Also, Ibrahim claimed he was put in handcuffs and taken away by the police officers after they allegedly beat him up and also detained him for some time. In the course of his arrest, he tried to call the Commander of Police in the district which after he answered the call, he indicated he was the one who ordered for his arrest because of the illegality of his actions.

The Commander of Police in the Tarkwa District, Chief Superintendent Osei Ababio also gave his account on Skyy Power FM and made it known that, he received information about the demonstration from his police officers and called for back up when he got to known the situation has gotten out of hand and can not be handled by the three police officers alone. After that, he received a call from Ibrahim Diallo complaining of his arrest which he told him to keep calm and follow instructions till he meet him at the police station later on.

He said, ” He called me about his arrest and I told him to keep calm and follow instructions. Later on, there was an information that a group of the Efanta youths are on their way to attack the police station because their assemblyman has been arrested. I had to get the military involve to help us to deal with the youths at the demonstration. I did not see him at the charge office neither did I see him when he was arrested and I can state whatever he is saying is lies and nothing he says is the truth”.

The Commander indicated the assemblyman rather motivated the youths to demonstrate and block the road which is a busy road used by travelers in the country. So whatever Mr. Ibrahim Diallo is saying are lies and non of them is the truth.
