The Takoradi Circuit Court on Wednesday, June 23, remanded a female teacher into prison custody for two weeks over attacking a female colleague teacher, Hassana, and threatening her life.
The accused, Jamilatu Mohammed is a 34-year-old teacher at Islamic Junior High School located in Aboadze, in the Shama District of the Western Region.
Jamilatu is to reappear on July 7, 2021, when the full merit of the case would be heard.
The case, which was presided over by Judge Abigail Anima Asare, expressed great worry over the fact that the complainant, who was reportedly assaulted and also a teacher at the same school with the accused, is pregnant, and questioned the kind of lessons pupils of the School would learn from this act.
According to Emmanuel Avevor, the Assemblyman in the area, Jamilatu and Hassana have a bad blood between them for over 3 years now which he has no idea of the cause.
Narrating the Incident on Skyy Power 93.5FM’s Jolly Breakfast Show, he indicated that it was time for Hassana to go and teach a class of which Jamila had finish teaching. As the victim was approaching the classroom, the accused prevented her and that prompted Hassana to report the incident to the headmistress of the school.
As she was reporting the incident, Jamila was eaves dropping behind the office window of the headmistress. Immediately Hassana came out of the office, Jamila pounced on her and both of them battled it out till their cloths was in tatters.
Upon the husband of Hassana knowing her wife was 6 month pregnant and Jamila was the first to attack, he reported the incident to the Shama Police Station which was then proceeded to court.
The Judge addressed the type of morals students of the school would be impacted with, from the act of the teachers, as they are looked up to by the students as their mentors.
The Controller and Accountant General have been notified by the prosecutor according to the orders of the judge not to pay any salary for the two weeks the accused would spend on remand.
