Takoradi: We’ll stop picking overweight passengers – BU Taxi Drivers

Taxi Drivers at Butumagyebu popularly known as B.U, a suburb of Sekondi-Takoradi in the Western Region have vowed to stop picking overweight people from their junction to Ketan until their roads are fixed.

According to them, the road from B.U Junction to Ketan is in a deplorable state which makes them visit the work shop almost everyday for repairs due to effects the road have on their cars.

“When we pick fat people, the underside of our vehicle tends to scrape the road which destroys some part of our vehicle. We are no longer willing to sacrifice our taxis” the Drivers said.

One of the Taxi Drivers said, “We don’t allow overweight people in our taxis, because the under side will scrape the road from your starting point to the end of your journey. Now my car is very weak and making some funny noise because of the effects from using the road.”

Speaking to Nana Yaw Kumi of Skyy Power 93.5FM, some of the drivers indicated they have to service their vehicles almost every day due to the state of the road.

However, they indicated they are planning on a demonstration, which they will block and prevent any vehicle from using the road until they see a road contractor ready to fix the road for them.
