Until Kofi Kinaata’s emergence as winner of the Songwriter of the year category at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), Okyeame Kwame had the enviable record as a two time winner.
Last year at the VGMAs, Kofi Kinaata with the smash hit ‘Things Fall Apart’ broke the record by being the first Ghanaian Artiste to ever win that category three times, an enviable record every Artiste silently jealous.
Unsatisfied with the record, the son of Western Region has for the fourth time won the ‘Songwriter of the year’ category at the 22nd VGMA Industry Awards, which was held yesterday, 25th June in Accra. With ‘Behind the scenes,’ Kofi Kinaata was announced by Luigi Maclean, the Presenter of the award as the winner of the category, an announcement that was celebrated in many homes and on social media.
With his thumb lowered into his palm and four fingers raised high, Kofi Kinaata signaled to viewers of the awards that, this is the fourth time he is winning this. He further mentioned it when he accepted the award; “the new symbol is this (showing an erected four fingers)” and thanked his fans for the immense support.
Since 2016, Kofi Kinaata has won the Songwriter of the year as follows:
2016 – Susuka
2017 – Confession
2020 – Things Fall Apart
2021 – Behind the Scenes
On social media, he updated:
“Another One! I set a record last year.. and I’ve broken my own record this year! The only Ghanaian artiste to win the VGMA SongWriter Award for the FOURTH time! #VGMA22#TeamMooove“
