Armed police personnel have been deployed to the campus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) after the Ashanti Regional Security Council served notice of planned disturbances by two rival halls.
Authorities are taking measures to avert a repeat of a similar incident in 2018 that led to the destruction of university property in excess of 3 million Ghana cedis.
The Regional Security Council subsequently declared the KNUST campus a security zone.
University Relations Officer, Dr Norris Bekoe, in an interview with Joy News’ Ohemeng Tawiah, said more security officers are expected to be deployed to prevent acts that would turn the campus into a battleground.
