Sekondi-Takoradi MCE granted GH¢100k bail

The Takoradi Circuit Court A presided over by His Honor Michael Ampadu has granted embattled Sekondi-Takoradi mayor Abdul-Mumin Issah bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with three sureties.

He was charged on three counts including assault of police officer, offensive conduct and disturbing public peace.

He pleaded not guilty to all three charges.

Prosecuting, Superintendent Emmanuel Basintale told the Michael Ampadu court that the accused person and Chief Executive of Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) on Wednesday, February 2 and at about 8: 30pm was driving on top speed from the Takoradi direction to Kwesiminstim in Sekondi-Takoradi and nearly knocked down a police man on check point duties at the Kwesiminstim Cemetery.

While doing that, he failed to observe all road traffic regulations and in the process put other road users in harm’s way.

When he was approached and questioned, he got offended and verbally abused the complainant, Inspector Sarfo Andrews.

He was therefore arrested and subsequently charged with three counts.

Lead Counsel for the accused Samuel Agbota quoted copiously from a Supreme Court ruling on bailable offences and prayed the court to grant him bail.

The Presiding Judge agreed and granted the accused person bail amidst a strong caution that his court will not be lenient with any person or group of persons who will interfere with the works of the police.

He warned that he will not allow anyone to discourage the country’s security agencies irrespective of the standing in society.

The accused person, Abdul Mumin Issah, is to reappear before the court on March 17.
