More than 100 structures affected in Takoradi new market fire

A fire that started small as witnesses say went ahead to raze down over a hundred (100) structures at the makeshift market in Takoradi.

The makeshift market was developed for women of the Takoradi Market Circle due to the reconstruction of the market into an ultra-modern edifice and to meet the standard of a modern market structure.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to Skyy Power 93.5FM, the fire started at about 2:00 am in the morning and he quickly alerted some police personnel who were stationed at the market, they, however, told him the fire service team had been alerted.

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Director for the Sekondi-Takoradi Assembly, Mr James Obeng Junior told Skyy Power 93.5FM that over 100 structures in the market were affected and he will give the right figures after their assessment is done.

Also, the cause of the fire is still unknown and an investigation will be done to determine that. He indicated they have educated the market women on several occasions on fire outbreak prevention and they will still continue doing that.
