As part of efforts to end period poverty, a not for profit organisation based in Western Region, Virtuous Boardroom has supported over 300 females with 6 months supply of sanitary pads.
Joining millions across the world to celebrate the ‘Menstrual Hygiene Day’ on 28th May, 2022, Virtuous Boardroom targeted schools and female prisons of the Sekondi Prisons for their supply.
Female students of the Ntankorful M/A Junior High School, Mampong M/A Basic School and Sekondi Female Prison were the beneficiaries of Virtuous Boardroom’s benevolence. The Teachers of the various schools and female prison wardens also were supplied with the sanitary towels.
In addition to the supplies, Virtuous Boardroom contracted two health practitioners to educate the females about menstrual hygiene, how to track their period and keeping themselves clean to avoid contracting infections.
Speaking to the beneficiaries, Nana Yaa Arthur, Vice President of Virtuous Boardroom spoke to the students about building confidence and encouraged them to still attend school even during their time of the month.
She further challenged them to take their academics seriously. Even though the supply of sanitary pads will cover them for 6 months, Miss Arthur took the Students through how to save money from their pocket money to buy sanitary towels during their time of the month in order to avoid them asking from men which has tendency of leading them to some men who can take advantage of them.
