2 Teachers at Asangrakwa SHS remanded for rape, indecent assault

Two teachers of Asankragwa Senior High School have been remanded into police custody by the Asankragwa District Magistrate Court for allegedly rapping and assaulting two first-year students of the school.

The first suspect, Ernest Donkor, contrary to section 97 of the Criminal Offences Act (29/60) was charged with rape and the second suspect, Agustine Swanzy Oduro was charged with indecent assault, contrary to section 203 of the Criminal Offences Act (29/60)

The case presided over by His Worship Justice Agustine Fiifi Donful, was briefed by the prosecutor ASP J. A. Kwarkye that the suspects, Ernest Donkor, 28, and Agustine Swanzy Oduro, 34, are a Physics and History teacher at the school respectively.

Also, the names of the victims were withheld by the prosecutor stating that they are 15 and 16 years. The Assistant Headmaster at Asankragwa SHS, Daniel Quayson Junior reported the incident to the police after the victims lodged a complaint that they have been inappropriately touched by the suspects.

Briefing the judge, the prosecutor indicated that on the 14th of July, 2022, during an inter-school sports competition in the Amenfi West Municipal held at the said school, the suspects took the victims to town and bought new dresses for them to wear to be able to take them out to celebrate one of the victims’ birthday.

The suspects took the victims to a hotel at Wassa Dunkwa near Asankragwa at 2 pm after which they bought Malta Guinness drink for the victims, suspect Ernest Donkor, in the midst of the drinking, took the 16-year-old victim to one of the hotel rooms to have a conversation whiles suspect Agustine Oduro took the 15-year-old victim to a different room with the aim of having a conversation.

The 16-year-old victim in the course of the conversation excused herself to visit the washroom and left her Malta Guinness, victim returned from the washroom and after drinking the Malta Guinness drink, fell dizzy and went blackout. She regained her consciousness later and found herself on the bed naked with blood stains in between her thighs.

Also, suspect Agustine is said to have made sexual body contact with the 15-year-old victim by touching her buttocks and fondling her breasts.

The suspects took the victims back to the school campus after the 15-year-old resisted and run out of the room. On their way back to the campus, the suspect, Ernest Donkor promised to buy iPhone 7, pizza and food for the 16-year-old victim and cautioned them to keep their mouth shut.

Upon getting to the campus, the victims on the same day in the evening reported the incident to the Assistant Headmaster.

The complainant with the victims and assistance from the police arrested the suspects at Asankrangwa Police Station and lodged a complaint on the 15th of July 2022, police medical forms were issued to the complainant on behalf of the 16-year-old victim to attend the hospital for medical examination, finding and report

The case is adjourned to Wednesday, 20th July 2022.
