Food shortage may hit Ahanta West Municipality soon

There are fears that food shortage may hit Ahanta West Municipality in the Western Region due to the poor road network.

Ntaakrom is said to be the food basket of the Ahanta West municipality, the town that produces food for the residents in Ahanta West risk being cut off as a result of the bad nature of their road especially from Cape 3 Point to Sankara Road.

Speaking to Skyy Headline News, the Assembly member for Charvani, Prince Abakorw revealed the state of the road and the eminent outcome if no immediate steps are made to make the road motorable.

“The road is in a very bad shape the people who use it on a normal basis are really suffering, people are now using motorcycles and tricycles to commute the road because other vehicles cannot use the stretch.”

“Now we are experiencing food shortage in the Ahanta West at the market, food like cassava, plantain, okra and others are transported from that stretch… now to even get cassava at the Agona Nkwanta market is a problem, these were common things to get there.”

He also lamented how residents have been left stranded and helpless by the Assembly.

“We have informed the MCE, roads department and all necessary authorities and non of them have even made an effort to go to the site to check or given any feedback.”

“We have been abandoned, when you call the MCE, he will tell you they have given the road to a contractor to work but when you call the contractor too, he will tell you he has not received any money, that has been the challenge and our problem now.”
