The Western Regional Minister who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Takoradi, Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah has alluded to the fact that conflict among chiefs is the Western Region’s biggest problem.
Speaking at the durbar of chief at the 2022 Kundum festival in Axim, the Western Regional Minister mentioned that there are about 130 complaints on his table about the chieftaincy crisis in the region that needs his intervention. This he said is hampering development in the jurisdiction which would have benefits the whole region one way or the other.
He however appealed to the Chiefs to help him bring finality to the numerous chieftaincy crisis bedevilling the region.
He said, “The only reason this year’s Kundum Festival is being celebrated is the cooperation between the Lower and Upper Axim Traditional Areas… There is unity and no chieftaincy dispute.”
“In this region, we have a problem with chieftaincy and can u believe I have received about 130 complaints in relation to chieftaincy issues.”
He, therefore, encouraged the Nzema Traditional Area and acting Vice-President of the National House of Chiefs, Awulae Ati Brukusu, to collaborate with him to solve the chieftaincy issues in the region.
