A nine-month-old infant who had been missing for three days in Asankrangwa in the Western Region’s Wassa Amenfi West Municipality has been discovered dead.
Akua Ago’s body was discovered in what was considered a fishpond in Asikafoabatem, a neighbourhood in Asankrangwa.
The deceased’s father, Mr. Joseph Ayimberh, confirmed the information to the media, stating that he resided in Bremang with his wife, Rose, and siblings.
He claimed that on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, his wife and their lone child (Akua) travelled to Asankrangwa to shop because it was a market day.
When his wife arrived at Asankrangwa, according to Mr. Ayimberh, she entrusted her daughter to a 13-year-old girl she didn’t know and begged the girl to care for the deceased while she hurried to the market to get some things.
After a short while, she returned and noticed the stranger and her daughter had vanished. She began looking for them, but her search was unsuccessful.
Then, according to Mr. Ayimberh, “my wife went to a radio station to help her find the whereabouts of our daughter and then went to the Asankrangwa Divisional Police Command to make a complaint.”
On Thursday, October 6, 2022, one Mr Abdul Aziz, who some people had contacted to weed an area at Asikafoabatem, while attending nature’s call saw the deceased lying in a pond, informed the assembly member and the police.
The police went to the scene, inspected the body and conveyed same to the Asankrangwa Catholic hospital morgue, for preservation.
Information gathered indicated that Dr Sabina Ansah of Asankrangwa Catholic hospital who examined the body found no mark of assault.
The police have since released the body to the family and she has been laid to rest.
