4 Inmate at Sekondi Prisons set free

There were scenes of emotion at the Sekondi prisons when 4 working aged Inmates serving various terms due to their inability to pay fines imposed on them by the court walked to freedom when Ghana Business Hub Logistics (GBH) paid their proportionate fines.

The four inmates, Sylvester Amihere, John Otoo, Ibrahim Kawudaka and Nicholas Kobina were set free when Ghana Business Hub Logistics intervened and paid their fines of GHc10,000.

Individual fines ranged from GHc600.00 to GHc1600.00 with a jail term of six months to one year.

CEO for Ghana business hub logistics Mr Paul Elom Danko in an interview with Skyy News said everyone needs a second chance. As part of their social responsibility to mankind, it touches their heart to help decongest the Sekondi prisons.

He said, “In our last visit to the prison, we were told by the prison officers that some inmates have only being fined and if we are able to help pay, they will be released to decongest the prison, we did that and if things go well, we will try and do this every month.”

Supt. Ibrahim Yakubu, who is the Paralegal Officer at Sekondi Central Prison took the opportunity to narrate some challenges confronting the Sekondi prisons.

The released prisoners shared their stories of how they ended up in prison with Skyy News.
