Sally M: Ghanaian relative of President Mugabe stamps her presence in music with ‘Makoma’

Sally M, born Sally Mugabe Hayfron and named after her grandmother, the former Zimbabwe First Lady, Sally Francesca Mugabe Hayfron has released her second single, ‘Makoma,’ solidifying her entry into the music industry.

The new entrant, Sally M introduced herself to the limelight with her first single, ‘Attention Love.’

Following the acceptance by the music industry, Sally M on Friday, 11th November, 2022, released ‘Makoma,’ her second single.

She has shown great strength in her writing and vocal abilities, two traits hardly possessed by a single.

Late Sarah ‘Sally’ Francesca Hayfron, the first wife of former Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe whom Sally M was named after was a Ghanaian Professional Teacher who attended the Achimota School and met her future husband, Mr. Robert Mugabe at the Takoradi Teachers’ Training College.

Maame Diagyama, sister to Rena Sunkwa Hayfron (father of Sally M) and founder of Hour of Grace Pentecostal Academy recounts some similarities between Artiste Sally M and her grandmother; “well, both are from different eras. Yet they’ve chosen to be ambitious and go-getters, my opinion. Music and politics are ways to deal with people, and the masses. I believe there are those similarities in their traits.”

“First Lady (Sally Francesca Mugabe Hayfron) brought recognition to the family and earned respect too. Though we have tried to live in humility – during the 1983 (famine), our family shared food and clothes to our neighbors because we were well to do. I am sure that is the same spirit she took out there.”

“My daughter[Sally M] is on the same path with her grandmother whom she was named after but different career paths,”  she concluded.
