Residents of Anaji Estate, in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region, have bemoaned the sale of the CK Mann Park to a private investor.
The Anaji CK Mann Park according to the residents is a very important asset to the community as it serves as an event centre, football field and other important purposes.
The Anaji Estate Association chairman, Mr Sydney Cofie speaking during a meeting among residents on Sunday, January 22, said the park belongs to the community and was initially meant for the development of a market but since the project keeps delaying, it was converted into a football park.
However, they were shocked to realise that the very ‘heart’ of the community has been allegedly sold by the Assembly member of Anaji West, Mr John Davis who is also the Presiding Member (PM) of the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly.
According to Mr Sydney, since Mr Davis is aware of the Anaji Estate Association, they should have been contacted and made aware of the sale of the park.
Since they were not contacted, they disapprove of the sale of the park and will resist any development at the location.
Mr John Davis speaking to Skyy Power FM’s journalist Alex Tagoe confirmed the sale of the CK Mann Park to a private investor who will be developing it into an ultra-modern sports complex and business centre.
He indicated the redevelopment will comprise of an astroturf football park, basketball court and a business/event centre.
According to him, the State Housing Corporation and EKMA agreed to the sale of CK Mann Park since it conformed with their development plan.
Mr Davis revealed the park was sold to the owner of the Shelleyco Petroleum Gas Station.
