The Deputy Tourism Minister, Mark Okraku Mantey has announced plans by the government to build 10 amphitheatres in the country with the Western Region being one of the regions to benefit from the over 1000 sitting capacity amphitheatre.
He was speaking at the book launch of the Western Regional Minister Dr Kobby Okyere Darko Mensah, titled “Discover Western Region” on Tuesday, February 22.
Mr Okraku Mantey said although the Regional Minister has been calling for the old Center for National Culture (CNC) to be renovated, it would be difficult because the new projects are World Bank Development funded and the government was only allowed to bargain for new buildings instead of renovations.
He said, “This amphitheatre will have a capacity of 1000 and the Regional Minister will help us with some decisions to be taken concerning the construction of the edifice.”
“These funds cannot be used to renovate any project but to build new ones according to the World Bank who are granting us the fund.”
