An explosion at a quarry site at Kobinanokrom in the Shama District of the Western Region has left many dead and scores injured.

The incident that happened at about 10:40 PM on Saturday, September 9, sent shock waves around the neighbouring towns in Shama and even the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

Mr Lucas Ampong, the Human Resource (HR) Manager of the quarry company, STA ADDSAMS Enterprise speaking to Skyy News said twenty-two (22) workers in total were working on the site on the day of the incident, five (5) of them were Chinese nationals and the seventeen (17) were Ghanaians.

He said three (3) Ghanaians are confirmed dead and nine (9) are currently admitted at various hospitals in Shama, Sekondi-Takoradi and the remaining are yet to be found.

According to him, they are now investigating the cause of the explosion and will update the public in case of any development.
