Prestea youth threatens demonstration over deplorable roads in township

The General Secretary of the New Prestea Movement Mr Bernard Owusu has revealed that the youth in the township will embark on a demonstration over the deplorable state of the Prestea to Bogoso road.

Mr Owusu said hundreds of Prestea youth are planning to participate in the exercise as they believe the government has taken them for granted for too long.

Speaking on Skyy Power FM’s Jolly Breakfast Show on Tuesday, September 5, he said both the current and passed government have made claims that the Prestea to Bogoso roads have been fixed meanwhile, the claims are far from the truth.

According to these claims, is making them understand that the government is not considering fixing the roads hence the decision to embark on the street demonstration.

He noted that the township is the hub for some of the biggest and most important mining companies and even the government-owned Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO) that supplies power to neighbouring countries like Cote Divoire, but its welfare has been neglected.

The Prestea youth have alerted the Prestea District Police Command of their plan to hold a protest under the banner “FIX PRESTEA ROADS” in order to guarantee a peaceful demonstration. They sent a letter in August, in accordance with the law, asking for protection for their scheduled protest in Prestea Township on September 1, 2023.

However, due to a lack of staff, the Prestea Police Command moved the demonstration from September 1 to September 7 after conversations with the leadership of the protesters on August 24 and 27. Due to a prior commitment at Wassa Dominase from August 30 to August 31, 2023, there was a scarcity.
