Ghana FA extends support to Saudi Arabia’s 2034 World Cup bid

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially declared its support for Saudi Arabia in its endeavour to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

Saudi Arabia, responding to FIFA’s invitation for bids from Asia and Oceania, has set its sights on hosting the prestigious tournament, with the deadline for submissions approaching on October 31.

In a statement, the Ghana Football Association stated, “Ghana Football Association stands with our friends at Saudi Arabian Football Federation as they embark on their journey to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup™. Inspired by their remarkable transformation and fueled by the passion of their fans, we are excited to support the vision of #Saudi2034. Together, we believe in delivering an incredible tournament that unites the world through the beautiful game!”

Saudi Arabia’s decision to bid for the 2034 World Cup aligns with its broader initiative to establish itself as a global leader in sports. The nation has already successfully hosted various sporting events since 2018, including football, Formula 1, golf, and boxing.

Ghana’s endorsement adds to the growing list of over 70 federations backing Saudi Arabia’s bid for the 2034 tournament.

GFA and the Saudi Arabian Football Federation share a strong and amicable relationship. This bond was further solidified with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for “mutual benefits” in December 2022.

Yasser H. Almisehal, the head of Saudi football, conveyed his congratulations to Kurt Okraku for his successful re-election as GFA President earlier this month.
