Ghana’s 3 major oil-producing fields average 150k barrels per day – Petroleum Commission

The CEO of the Petroleum Commission Egbert Faibille says some of the immediate pressures from the global energy crisis have eased but the global economy remains unsettled.

Mr Faibille addressing the chiefs of the Western Region House of Chiefs at the 8th edition of the annual engagement with the chiefs organized by the Commission said although the oil industry is recovering from the effects of COVID-19, the country’s 3 producing fields are averaging a daily production of about 150,000 barrels of oil per day.

He said, “The energy world remains fragile even though effective ways to improve energy security are being rolled out.”

“Some of the immediate pressure from the global energy crisis has eased but the energy market, geopolitics and the global economy remain unsettled and the risk of further disruption is ever-present.”

“With an investment of 1 billion dollars made over the last 3 years to drill wells and install infrastructure, Tullow Oil Ghana and its partners on the Jubilee field successfully bought onstream first oil from the South East project offshore. It is expected that this will sustain production at the Jubilee field for about 100,000 barrels per day.”

He also enumerated some of the projects that the commission has been able to undertake in the Western Region.

Mr. Faibille said the Commission will adopt additional measures to ensure the safety of offshore facilities which would help resolve the altercation between fishermen and personnel of the Ghana navy.

“I would like to commend the exploration and production companies for adopting additional measures for ensuring the safety of offshore facilities.”

“I’m commending ENI Ghana for deploying a security on the Naval patrol vessel which will go a long way to resolve the altercation between fishermen and personnel of the Ghana navy.”
