We’ve created record 2.1m jobs so far – Bawumia

The government has created a record 2.1 million jobs for the youth in the past seven years says Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking at the launch of the Youth Employment Agency’s (YEA) latest job and business support initiative, the Business and Employment Assistance Programme in Sunyani, Dr. Bawumia said, “Our focus was to improve job creation through the public and private sector. So far, we have recruited in the private and public sectors 2.1m jobs; 975 by the private sector and 1.2 million by the public sector. The data is there and this cannot be disputed.”

Despite this unprecedented achievement, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged that more needs to be done to address the growing youth population and its need for jobs.

He emphasized, “We have done a lot in terms of job creation, but we still have a lot more to do because the youth constitute the majority of the population.” About 70% of the Ghanaian population is youth.

The Business and Employment Support Programme, launched by Dr. Bawumia, will support the growth of MSMEs by providing financial assistance to skilled workers and hiring more young entrepreneurs to sustain and expand small and medium-scale businesses. The YEA’s business and employment assistance programme is expected to benefit about 10,000 businesses and 20,000 youth.

Dr. Bawumia added that the government’s efforts to create jobs demonstrate its commitment to youth employment.

He said, “The youth of this country are our greatest resource, and it is our collective duty to ensure that they are well positioned to make significant contributions to the economic development of our dear nation.”

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is also the Flagbearer of the NPP in the 2024 elections.

The Vice President has promised to continue to address the job market needs of Ghana’s youth, and make sure more jobs are created for them in the future.
