A sod-cutting ceremony for the reconstruction of the regional prosthetic centre at Supormu Dunkwa in the Shama District has been held.
The 22-bed facility will offer a welcoming space for patients and their families and will also boast an eatery and an entertainment lobby.
Mr Frederick Agyeman, Regional Coordinating Council Chief Director who represented the regional minister said, this project will serve as a beacon of hope for individuals, providing them with access to quality prosthetic services, rehabilitation, and support.
He added that the 22-bed capacity Prosthetic Center after completion is expected to have a state-of-the-art telemedicine facility coupled with a dedicated team of health practitioners who will deliver comprehensive services, including prosthetic fittings, and physiotherapy among others.
In addition to the Prosthetic Center, he noted that the construction of staff accommodation and customer lodges is equally significant and will provide comfortable and convenient living quarters for dedicated healthcare professionals, community members, and patients.
Addressing the Media Mr Kingsley Mensah, executive secretary, of Sekondi Takoradi -Cities Support Fund, said the new 22-bed facility will address the present challenge of lack of adequate accommodation for both the patients and family members.
He added that he hopes that this will change the Economy of the Supormu-Dunkwa area through jobs, income and aesthetics.
He was also grateful to the corporate bodies and institutions who supported the project to become a reality.
The DCE for Shama, Hon. Ebenezer Dadzie indicated that Shama remains the gateway into the Western region, and a prime location along the Trans-ECOWAS road and this comes with enormous benefits but behind this is the frequent accidents that do occur on the road as a result of careless driving and poor pedestrian behaviour.
Therefore, the construction of a modern centre for prosthetic services cannot be over-emphasized.
He added that the centre would rehabilitate people to live near-normal lives, provide employment and sell the name of Supomu Dunkwa.
The reconstruction of the regional prosthetic centre is of the sister-city friendship between Sekondi Takoradi and Plymouth City aimed at providing independence to amputees and ensuring that they can navigate and be economically useful to themselves.
