6,000 Members abandon Alan Cash’s Movement for Change

Some 6,000 people who defected from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to Alan’s Movement for Change announced their return to their former party.

Led by former NPP parliamentary hopeful for Adentan, Alfred Ababio Kumi, the people, largely youth, stated they made a mistake by leaving the NPP.

Addressing the media in Accra, Ababio Kumi openly acknowledged their blunder and reaffirmed their support for the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“It has become evidently clear that we made a mistake; a mistake that we humbly admit and are ready to work to ensure that its dire effect is reversed or averted,” he said.

According to him, since Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s speech on February 7, 2024, they have been asking themselves questions about the country’s future and the Ghana that young people want.

Bribe Accusation

Reacting to the news, the Nationwide Supporters of Alan Cash (NAWSAC) said this is one of the attempts by the NPP to undermine the candidature of Alan Kyerematen.

A statement signed by the group’s convener, Luther-King Junior, said, “We are aware of the clandestine operations of the New Patriotic Party to undermine the candidature of Alan Kyerematen.”

The statement added, “This time in a full display of ‘monicracy’, there have been blatant attempts to use money as a tool to pull young people from the Movement for Change.”

The NAWSAC described the people who announced their defection as stomach politicians who have cheapened themselves because of their greediness and ignorance.

“To you, the stomach political apparatus who have been so cheapened by your greed to think your poster sticking and noise making roles are substantive enough to undermine this revolution, we applaud your ignorance,” the statement stressed.

It said the NPP and NDC shall no longer take the youth for granted.

“NPP and NDC cannot buy the conscience of young people with their spoils of corruption. The youth shall win this war,” it indicated.

It added, “Let us emphasise that the true young people of this Revolution cannot be bought. We the youth are convinced in the leadership of Alan Kyerematen and will not trade our integrity and convictions on the altar of incompetence and corruption.”

The Alan group stated that the NPP and NDC duopoly will no longer be permitted to take young people for granted through “disgraceful acts of financial inducement” rather than providing solutions for job creation and opportunities for young people.
