Teacher unions called off their nationwide strike, initiated on March 20 due to grievances over their conditions of service yesterday
The decision comes after the National Labour Commission (NLC) obtained an interim injunction to facilitate negotiations.
The unions cited the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service’s failure to address concerns, including the absence of a Scheme of Service and Collective Agreement, as reasons for the strike.
Speaking on Skyy Power FM’s Jolly Breakfast Show this morning, the Western Regional Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Mr Abedi Boadu indicated that executives are looking forward to negotiations with the NLC and hoping their demands will be met after the meeting.
He also called on teachers to resume their normal duties as the strike has been called off.
He said, “I’m calling on all teachers to resume work, yes resuming work after staying home for 2 weeks may not be that easy, but we all must make sure our purposeful duties are fulfilled whilst we negotiate with the NLC to see the way forward.”
