Western Region records 77 road crashes in first two months of 2024

A report from the Regional Office of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) reveals that between January and February of this year, there were 77 traffic crashes in the Western Region.

The report states that 145 cases—or a 53 per cent decrease—were reported during the same time frame in the previous year.

According to the report, the number of injuries reported fell by 19% from 136 in 2023 to 110 this year.

Additionally, according to the figures, there were 27 road crash fatalities this year compared to 20 during the same period last year, a 35 per cent rise.

In a media interview, Mr Victor Kojo Bilson, the NRSA’s Western Regional Head, voiced concern about the ongoing traffic accidents and promised that the Authority would keep up its education efforts to lessen the threat.

To help avoid collisions on the roadways, he counselled all users of the transport system, particularly drivers, to constantly follow the established road safety laws and regulations.

He continued: “All of us have a shared responsibility to protect our precious lives on the roads, so we must all endeavour to be cautious of our safety so that collectively we can ensure accident-free Ghana.”
