KNUST staff files another suit challenging vice-chancellor’s tenure extension

A stores superintendent at the Procurement Department at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has filed a suit challenging the recent extension of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mrs Akosua Dickson’s tenure.

The applicant, Isaac Mensah, who has been with the university for 26 years, is urging the court to nullify the decision on grounds of “illegality and procedural impropriety”.

The applicant asserts that the governing council’s actions are unlawful and should not be allowed to stand.

He highlights that permitting the extension would among other things undermine the statutes governing the university and deny other qualified individuals the opportunity to be considered for the Vice-Chancellor position.

The suit stresses the urgency of the situation, noting that the governing council plans to allow the VC to assume office on August 1, 2024.

The latest development comes after an alumni filed a suit challenging the reappointment of the vice-chancellor a fortnight ago.

The previous case is scheduled to be heard tomorrow, July 30.
