He said, “the students were fetching water for the workers on site when the carpenter called them to pick a piece of bamboo for him to work with inside the building. Immediately they entered the building, the entire structure caved in and trapped them.”
The owner of the structure which when completed will serve as classrooms annex for her private vocational institute in the area is said to have started development without obtaining permit from the Municipal Assembly.
The Municipal Chief Executive said efforts to compel the developer to obtain permit was not obeyed.
On Sunday, Some officers from the Ghana National Fire Service were at the scene to conduct assessment of the structure.
The Greater Accra Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, Acting Chief Fire Officer I, Roberta Aggrey Ghanson told journalists after their assessment that the aggregate of concrete mixed for the building was poor because it lacks cement in its right quantity. The site has since been cordoned off.
The team later visited the Central Kasoa Clinic where survivors are receiving treatment.
One of the victims who became unconscious and in critical condition after being pulled from the rubble has been resuscitated by health workers and responding to treatment.
Another worker at the site, who sustained chest injury is also recuperating.
